About Group E
Group E is headlined by four-time world champions Germany, who come to North America hungry to bounce back after consecutive group-stage exits. Ivory Coast, Ecuador, and first-time World Cup participants Curaçao complete a fascinating and wide-open group.
Teams in Group E
🇩🇪Germany(UEFA)
Four-time World Cup champions (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014), Germany come to North America with renewed ambition after disappointing early exits in 2018 and 2022. Die Mannschaft possess world-class depth across every position and are widely considered among the strongest contenders to lift the trophy.
🇨🇼Curaçao(CONCACAF)
Curaçao make a historic maiden World Cup appearance after qualifying through the CONCACAF pathway. The small Caribbean island nation — a constituent country of the Netherlands — has punched far above its weight to reach football's biggest stage, and their debut will inspire a generation of young players on the island.
🇨🇮Ivory Coast(CAF)
Ivory Coast are one of Africa's most talented football nations, having produced a generation of world-class strikers and midfielders. Les Éléphants qualified through CAF and draw on experienced players from Europe's top leagues, making them one of the continent's most dangerous sides.
🇪🇨Ecuador(CONMEBOL)
Ecuador return to the World Cup after opening the 2022 tournament in Qatar with a win against the hosts. La Tri are known for their fast, direct attacking play through the flanks and have been a consistent South American qualifier in recent years.

How Group E Qualification Works
The top two teams from Group E advance directly to the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout stage. The third-place team is not automatically eliminated — the 8 best third-place finishers from all 12 groups also advance, ranked by points, goal difference, and goals scored. The fourth-place team is eliminated from the tournament.
In the event of a tie on points, FIFA applies the following tiebreakers in order: goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, and head-to-head goals scored. This simulator applies all official FIFA tiebreaker rules automatically as you enter match scores.
